What Happens When Car Insurance Denies Claim – Next Step To Take

Many at times, when people buy auto insurance claims, they actually pray never to make use of it but the truth is accidents happen and we never really see them coming. Weather damages, fender bender and even serious car crashes happens that might eventually lead to injuries and damage in property.

If you end up filing a claim then you are expected to only pay for your deductible and your insurance company would handle the rest but what happens when car insurance denies claims that you have filed for? This is actually the last thing anyone would like to face when dealing with injury or damaged property after a car accident.

What Happens When Car Insurance Denies Claim

What Happens When Car Insurance Denies Claims

The next question that you might have is why your claim got denied and what can be done about it because it can be very frustrating to have your claims denied which would leave you confused and worried as to what you did wrong. However, more often than not, these insurance companies tend to have legitimate reasons for not listening or paying attention to your claims and below are some of the reasons why your claims might not be listened to.

Exhausting Policy Limits

After purchasing your car, you can decide what kind of coverage that you want and also what limits you want to add to the policy. It would be easy for an insurance company to deny your claims if you have exceeded your policy limits or if your coverage limits have been exhausted as well. Furthermore, the kind of coverage that you choose to select for your car insurance also determines the kind of car damage that you insurance company would be able or willing to pay for. If you are filing for a coverage that you didn’t pay for then your insurance company has no other choice but to deny it.

Take for example, if you do not pay for collision coverage and your vehicle gets into an accident then your insurer will not be able to pay for the damage you are filing for.

Violating The Law

It might be a case for your claims to be denied if you while presenting information, didn’t present it properly. What this means is if you are driving a car just for transportation to work and when involved in a car accident, you stated that you were making use of it for Lyft or Uber then the insurance company would have no other option but deny such claims.

Reporting The Accident To Your Insurer Immediately

You could have your claim to be seen as unnecessary if you do not report the car accident immediately and this might also pop some questions as to whether the damages made to your vehicle truly happened. It is important that photos of the accident are taken and sent to your insurer There are companies that permit their customers to make use of a phone app or submit their accident reports online just to make the process an easy one.

Another thing that you have to do is exchange insurance information and this should be done with any other driver involved in the accident as it would also help to backup your claims later that you were truly involved in a car accident that probably caused some injuries and damage to property.

Get A Police Report

This report is important as it would give a detailed information of what happened during the accident. It also tells which of the drivers is at fault for the accident.

Seeking Medical Attention

This should be done immediately after the accident so as to associate the accident to your injuries. Even if the injuries sustained are minor, you would need to visit the doctor as it would help in backing up your claims later. If the impact from the car accident isn’t strong to the insurance company, they might also believe that you actually didn’t sustain any injuries from the car accident.

How To Resolve Being Denied By An Insurance Company

If you believe that your claims were dismissed unfairly then there are few steps that you might need to take and these steps includes;

  • Being patient and gathering more information
  • Contacting the department of insurance
  • Hiring an attorney

Taking all of these three steps would help in proving that your claims are valid and also help you in getting compensated with what you deserve.
